An Evening in Roma

Rome is one of my favorite cities and I spent a magical night touring Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and enjoying a concert with LivItaly Tours. This was not the typical night out in Rome--it was better. We learned about Roman history, enjoyed aperitivi bites and wine and later were wow-ed by a classical symphony in an open air courtyard. What a night! If you are interested in this tour, head over to http://www.livitaly.com and look for the "Rome Romantic Evening Wine & Concert"

Cooking with Locals: Silvia Baracchi of Il Falconiere

I love to EAT Italian food, so it's high time that I learn how to cook it, the Italian way! Michelin star chef, Silvia Baracchi invited myself and my parents to have a cooking class with her at her cute Tuscan kitchen on the breath-taking relais & chateaux estate of Il Falconiere. We made a 3 course meal from scratch, sipping wine, learning tricks and laughing along the way. A bonus is you get to eat what you make later on at their stunning al fresco restaurant. A truly memorable afternoon and meal.

Hotel Raphaël, Rome, Italy

The HOTEL SNOB is at it again! I traveled to Italy this summer and spent a fantastic weekend in Rome. I chose to stay at Hotel Raphaël because of it's location near Piazza Navona, it's eco-friendliness and it's amazing rooftop. I was pleased with my stay--the rooms were stylish and modern, breakfast was hearty & delicious and the rooftop was breathtaking, now with a new restaurant. The location is hard to beat if you want to be in the middle of all the sites and I enjoyed the surrounding small streets. See the hotel for yourself and let me know if you agree with my review!

Tuscan Cooking with the Borgo Cooking School

My parents and I spent an amazing day in Tuscany, learning how to cook from top chefs of the Michelin starred Borgo Santo Pietro, a & Châteaux property. We even learned how to make pasta from an Italian mama, Mamma Olga! From homemade ravioli to pork tenderloin and finishing with made from scratch chocolate, we prepared incredible dishes using ingredients from Borgo's farm and garden. Chef Andrea Mattei was more than friendly, approachable and knowledge and we were amazed by his culinary skills--he is a Michelin starred chef after all! Our chocolate lesson was very sweet indeed, taught by Head Pastry Chef Diego Poli. We even were able to enjoy...

Dream to Reality: Italy's La Tenuta Moreno Masseria & Spa

I had wanted to go to Puglia, Italy for so long so when My Brindisi Tourism launched a video contest to go, I had to enter. I toured around New York City, asking locals & tourists for help in my entry video, and lo & behold, I won! I was sent to Puglia this past October to experience the region and hotel that I had been dreaming of. Thank you to Niccolo Lania, my expert filmmaker!

Ca' Lunae: Tasting Wine at a Ligurian Vineyard

Get Lost in ITALY with Kelley Ferro The Ligurian coast is stunningly beautiful and has even more to offer than just Cinque Terre. The coastal towns are breathtaking and the wine in Liguria is just as delicious! A perfect way to experience a family run wine producer is to take a tour of the Ca' Lunae winery in Castelnuovo Magra. The beautiful grounds, lovely old farmhouses showcase the history of winemaking, the unique properties of the Ligurian wines and of course, the beautiful story of the Bosoni family's famed product. Stay for the day and indulge in a tasting! Don't forget to take home a bottle or two! Salut!

Eating Mussels in Portovenere, Italy

Get Lost in Italia with Kelley Ferro Portovenere's most famous food is it's MUSSELS. These little guys are the freshest around as they are harvested in the waters surrounding the town. I stepped into Portovene 1 to see they many different ways that mussels can be prepared, and I even got to get behind the counter and cook myself! But I'm not going to lie, the best part was all the taste testing. Watch to see which dish is my favorite! Warning: Don't watch on an empty stomach!

See Rome's Colosseum Tour & Roman Forum like VIP

How to see the Roman Colosseum, the Underground and the Roman Forum? The best way is on this VIP Tour! There is no waiting in lines and we had special access to the arena floor of the Colosseum--without crowds of tourists! Our group was capped at 6 people too. Plus, we had a super knowledgeable tour guide that told us all the interesting stories about the construction, what life was like during the Gladiator days and ancient Rome. His information kept all our attention and I left having learned a lot more about Rome and Italian culture. This was my third time visiting the Colosseum and by far, it was...

Rome's Vatican & Sistine Chapel Tour: How to Avoid the Crowds

Imagine standing in the Sistine Chapel, with just a handful of people around. Or walking through the Vatican City Museums with not one other soul... It is possible! On our trip to Rome, we wanted to see as much of Vatican City's highlights, without the thousands of tourists, long waits and jampacked rooms. I am so happy that we took this small group tour with LivItaly because we actually got to learn a lot and ENJOY our experience. You wake up EARLY but it is all worth it when you meet your guide--Giulia was amazing--and then you walk into the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel in the quiet hours of...

Riding Elephants for the First time in Thailand

The most INCREDIBLE sensation is sitting on top of a magnificent elephant as he/she ambles through the Thailand jungle. I was so excited to have the chance to really bond with an elephant for two hours and the "mahout training" at the Four Seasons Tented Camp prepared me well. The skilled mahouts introduced us to the elephants, told us about their backgrounds (many of which had been abused by former owners) and they explained how the Camp's four elephants are now well taken care of and treated with respect. Then we learned how to actually ride them bareback, which was a little trickier than expected since I had nothing to...

A Perfect Day at the Four Seasons Chiang Mai

On my honeymoon in Thailand, I spent an amazing 2 nights at the Four Season Chiang Mai. Our one full day there was filled with some incredible experiences, unbeatable food and a lot of local culture, in the most luxurious setting.

Get ready to be blown away. This is not even close to your average hotel experience and Kelley Ferro, the Hotel Snob, takes you through one of the best hotels in the world, from the boat ride in, to the unbelievable "tent" rooms, to the transporting Burma Bar to riding elephants through the jungle.

Incredible Thai Food at the Four Seasons Chiang Mai

Food is very important to me when I travel and I think some of my best meals in Thailand were had during my stay at the Four Seasons Chiang Mai. Of course the Four Seasons brand is known for excellence, but I had no idea just HOW good the food could be. From a droolworthy breakfast buffet, to poolside snacks, rich local lunch specials at the Sala Mae Rim and an unbeatable Italian dinner at Terraces--every bite I had was memorable. Oh, I can't forget the cocktails! Sundowners at the Ratree Bar with handmade snacks were the perfect cap off to each day on this stunning property.

One Day as a Rice Farmer in Chiang Mai

I went to Thailand on my honeymoon and had the chance to stay at the stunning Four Seasons Chiang Mai. Besides the luxurious property, amazing food and incredible service, I had the chance to experience real local life by learning how to grow and harvest rice from local farmers. This staple of the Thai culture has an intensive growing and harvesting process and we were able to get in the paddies and plant & harvest ourselves!

Dallmayr: Munich's Luxury Food Hall

Get Lost in Germany with Kelley Ferro A family owned business with some of the most famous coffee in all of Europe, Dallmayr has every delicious specialty food you could want--from fresh produce, fish, meats, homemade breads and the sweets---oh the sweets! I took home a box of their sugary fruit gelees as well as their local honeys. But trust me, I could eat all my meals at Dallmary everyday. This is how food markets should be.

Munich's Best Beergarden

Get Lost in Germany with Kelley Ferro In my opinion, Munich's Best Beer Garden is the Wirsthaus at BavariaPark, and believe me, that is high praise. Munich is home to some of the best beer gardens, large & small, indoors & out. This one really struck me because of it's laidback "locals-only" atmosphere, naturally beautiful landscape, very good food and of course, Munich's favorite Augustiner beer on tap. It's also just steps away from the Oktoberfest fair grounds. They also have the upscale Kongresshalle bar next door, perfect for the transition from a few steins and food by day, to a classy cocktail & dancing by night. Put this on...

Local Bavarian Cuisine at Restaurant Gasthof Fraundorfer

Get Lost in Germany with Kelley Ferro For a local eating experience, the Gasthof Frandorfer is part show, part dinner. Partnach Gorge

Get Lost in Germany with Kelley Ferro The Partnach Gorge surprised me. It's history as a logging transport route helped shape the region and just standing next to the rushing waters is awe-inspiring. The lower path puts you just meters above the roaring waves so be prepared to get a little wet!

Lola Paltinger's Rockstar Dirndl

What to wear in Munich? Be at the forefront of the style trends with a dirndl from the revamped interpretation of a Bavarian classic--Lola Paltinger's dirndls. Her line, Lollipop & Alpenrock, is a little bit sexy, a little bit traditional and a lot rockstar. She's making waves in the fashion scene and she does it all herself with her mother. Her studio is in her own home and she graciously let me come and don her frocks. She makes custom made and has off the rack patterns--perfect for Oktoberfest, a party or just a glamorous day in Munich.

Viktualienmarkt: Munich's Outdoor Market

Englischer Garden Park & Eisbach Surfing Wave

Get Lost in Germany with Kelley Ferro Munich's most famous park gets it's glory for good reason. Sprawling fields, a babbling creek, wildflowers & a giant Chinese Pagoda/Biergarten--what's not to love? The locals certainly do as it was packed on a Thursday. Who doesn't love a beer in the sun? And you can't not stop by to admire the atheletic talents of the surfers at the Eisbach. Yes, surfers in the middle of a park, in the middle of a city, in the middle of a landlocked country in Europe. The Eisbach is a man-made surfing wave from a fast flowing river. The wave is narrow so the surfers must...

Munich's Famed Hofbrauhaus

Northstar California, Tahoe: Babymoon Guide

Skiing, snowboarding, sledding and skating--you can do all these things at Northstar. But we didn't. We went up for a weekend getaway for a BABYMOON, which meant we were going to play in the snow, eat good food and enjoy this mountain without every setting foot in a ski boot. We did take the Gondolas though and enjoyed the summit at sunset followed by a Mountain Table Dinner at the Zephyr Lodge. We also indulged in Marshmology at the Ritz Carlton Tahoe, followed by a lovely walk in the snowy woods. And definitely check out Tahoe Yoga, the shops and the apres ski in Northstar Village. But maybe my favorite...

Saved by the Max in Los Angeles

Saved by the Bell is back and in LA! I am a Saved by the Bell nerd 🤓 so CLEARLY I jumped at the chance to tour the Saved by the Max pop-up restaurant that just opened in LA. The attention to detail in the recreated The Max diner is beyond impressive- plus there is a replica of Bayside High School and Mr. Belding’s office. I didn’t try the food but with a Michelin starred chef & full bar, I have a feeling that it'll be great! Plus, all have fun, themed names that relate to the show--for all your superfans out there like me! I shouldn’t tell you this...

Malibu Beach Inn, Malibu, California

Breathtaking beaches, waterfront restaurants, perfect waves, endless sunshine and celebrity mansions, Malibu is one of the most well known beach towns in California, let alone the world. But this high profile town also has a very laidback, local vibe. After my stay at the Malibu Beach Inn, I'm impressed that this hotel balances all of what it is to be Malibu, one boutique hotel that is literally built on the sand. Steps from the Malibu Pier, just off the Pacific Coast Highway, the hotel is literally on Carbon Beach, or Billionaire's Beach: one of the most desirable locations in all of Malibu. The rooms all have ocean views, with natural...

Queen Mary's Dark Harbor 2017: Top 5 Tips

Haunted mazes, a spooky village full of creeps and ghouls--this is Halloween heaven! I had a blast losing myself in the scary Dark Harbor this year. We had the VIP bracelets so we got front the line, Fright Pass access, which I highly recommend if you want to do all the mazes. We were able to tick off every one: Intrepid, Deadrise, Soulmate, Circus, Feast, B508 and Lullaby. My favorites were in that order but each were really unique. Just a warning: the actors do a great job and you WILL BE SCARED! I didn't think I could actually be frightened but I was--it was all in good fun. It...

Santa Monica Eats: Del Frisco's Grille

Santa Monica has a slew of great restaurants, but what sets Del Frisco's Grille apart is its prime location and its prime meats-- oh and i its sexy bar, ocean view patio and amazing fish dishes. It is located on Ocean Avenue, just across from Santa Monica Pier, which might be the epicenter of Santa Monica! I met Chef Daniel Tiger, a Del Frisco's alum, and sampled some of the top dishes--my favorites for meat were the Two Fist Burger with sloppy sauce and their deliciously seasoned Filet Mignon and NY Strip. After the sun sets, the mood is sleek and buzzing, especially around the bar. Order a "VIP" if...

MacArthur Place in Sonoma, California

Recently, I checked out the MacArthur Place, a boutique property just steps from downtown Sonoma in wine country of Northern California.. I very much enjoyed the layout of the property with all the rooms in cottages throughout a nicely manicured lawn and garden areas. The pool was a refreshing treat, as was the daily wine & cheese hour. The little luxuries here made our stay that much better and the rooms were very well appointed. Stop & GO: Los Angeles

Episode 11: Our final stop! Get Lost on Amtrak Series. Kelley takes the Southwest Chief from Chicago to Los Angeles. From Chicago, across the snowy midwest, through the red sands of New Mexico & Arizona, we completed our journey by pulling into Union Station, Los Angeles. The trip had come full circle but it wasn't over yet! This train traveler was ready to see the sights of Los Angeles and since I was invigorated by my relaxing train ride, I was ready to take Los Angeles, Santa Monica & Venice by storm. Check out this fast paced 24 hour adventure through the beaches and hills of LA.

Get Lost on Amtrak! Hotel Palomar in Chicago

Kelley started off her Amtrak cross country journey in the snowy Chicago. She picked the well rated Hotel Palomar as her homebase and the hotel did not disappoint. From the great location, comfortable rooms and 5pm happy hour, Kelley was pleasantly with all facets of the hotel and would give it 7 out 10 stars!

DEEP Dish Pizza at Lou Malnati's

Stop & Go: Chicago's Art Institute

Get Lost on a Train Series A very worthy stop on your Chicago tour--this museum has so many iconic pieces of art, it is truly remarkable. Stop by the Bean next door to check off two of Chicago's best spots.

24 Hours in Santa Barbara on AMTRAK

We needed a quick weekend getaway so we boarded Amtrak's Coast Starlight train from LA to Santa Barbara. From kayaking with dolphins, drinking wine in the Funk Zone, to riding surrey bikes on the beach, we made the most of our 24 hour trip. Santa Barbara has LOT going on but here's what I'd suggest if you only have one night. Special thanks to Amtrak for the great service! Trains taken: LA to Santa Barbara "Coast Starlight" Santa Barbara to LA "Pacific Surfliner"

Kissing in AUSTRIA!

Kelley went to Austria on a mission. To become as close to an Austrian as she could. She started this quest by hunting for the perfect outfit of course, and that was the Dirndl. She searched across the whole country to find the perfect one... and she fell in love with a whole lot more than just the dress... 😉

What is a Dirndl?

Americans have jeans, Indians have saris, the French have berets and Austrians have DIRNDLN. A dirndl is a traditional Austrian dress worn by Austrian women, young and old. But the dress is so much more than just a piece of clothing--it represents all facets of the culture. Kelley shows you how.

Creation of a Dirndl in Austria

The dirndl is Austria's traditional dress and many Austrian women wear this for important cultural events. The best of these works of art are laboriously made my hand by local artisans. Kelley goes to Austria to find out how they are made and you may be surprised what she finds!

Life in Dirndl

Where do you wear a dirndl? Well we decided to ask some Austrians where they wear these striking dresses and we were surprised by what we found out!

Dirndl Fashion

The dirndl isn't just for the old ladies! Dirndls are experiencing a huge revival and are very popular in the fashion world. Kelley learns all about what was fashionable for dirndls, then and now, and what are the must have accessories. She also interviews fashion star designer Lena Hoschek in Vienna for her take on it!

From Wild to Mild: Hotels at Morey's Piers

Get Lost & Wild at Morey's Piers: Hotel Accommodations Beachfront luxury or retro "Jetsons" style motels, the hotel accommodations have enough diversity for all your needs and price points when you visit Morey's Piers. I stayed at the jetset styled Pan American Hotel and loved the beach access, lively pool and excellent breakfasts. Also beachfront, the Port Royal had a maritime vibe, with a rocking game room and stylish library. Their diner-style restaurant served up fresh, inventive breakfast plates with friendly smiles. The Starlux Hotel & the Blue Palms, were both slices of old-school Jersey Shore. The Starlux was wildly retro while the Blue Palms was perfect for the DIY...

Go Wild on Rides at Morey's Piers

From the nostalgic Wave Swinger to the wet n' wild Zoom Phloom to the soaring Sky Coaster--Morey's Piers has 3 piers filled with world-class amusement park rides for all tastes. My favorites were the creepy Ghost Ship, the the view-friendly Giant Wheel and the wooden roller coaster, the Great White!

Wild on Food: Morey's Piers

Voted one of the US's best boardwalks for food by the Daily Meal, the food at Morey's Piers is anything but average. Sure you can find your fried oreos, famous cheesesteaks, lemon shakeups and giant pizzas, but the options continue from beach bars with live music to tex-mex to sit-down seafood hotspots. Yum.

artBox: Wild Art, Music and Crafts on Morey's Piers

Such a cool concept, I was blown away by Artbox on Adventure Pier. Artists have set up workshops where they repurpose and handcraft jewelry, glass, paintings, sculptures and more on site. The funky space is crafted from reused shipping containers and at night, there are School of Rock concerts until the wee answers. This is a must see!

Splash into Wild at the Waterparks

Get Lost & Get Wild with Kelley Ferro at Morey's Piers Wildwood is an iconic destination for young and old, families and friends--and there's no shortage of fun, especially at their two waterparks: Ocean Oasis & Raging Waters.

Luxury Boutique Hotel: The Algodon Mansion

I've stayed in over 400 hotels, and the Algodon Mansion is like none other. With all suites in a former townhouse and landmark building, service, quality and class encapsulates your experience in an understated, stately way. It's both modern & historic Argentinian and the wine bar, Chez Nous restaurant and breakfast in the glass ceilinged terrace room draw local crowds. Don't book just because it has a roof pool to soak away your busy day exploring, or the Davidoff lounge & sky bar so you can indulge in a cocktail under the stars, stay here because the location in Recoleta is a perfect homebase, the staff caters to your every...

The Kulm Hotel St Moritz

Swiss Miss for a Week: The Kulm St Moritz Hotel Naturally, the only way to stay in St Moritz is at one of the opulent 5 star hotels. The Kulm Hotel has the benefit of being the first hotel in the city as well! The founder, Johann Badrutt, built the Kulm and invited guests to his hotel in the winter--thus creating the now wildly popular "ski holiday." There was so much to do in the hotel, I didn't even want to leave. Swiss Miss for a Week: The Kulm SKIING IN ST MORITZ Do you ski or snowboard? Did you know that the whole idea of the "ski holiday" was created in St. Moritz? Speedy Guide to Christmas Markets in France & Germany

Ever wonder what a Christmas market is like? Take a tour through some of the best in Europe! I visit the markets Strasbourg, France and Heidelberg, Speyer, Cologne & Rudesheim in Germany. I was able to see 17 total markets all on the Viking River Cruise, the Rhine Getaway. Our boat started in Amsterdam and sailed down to Basel, stopping at festive cities along the way. Tis the season for gluwein, gnomes and crafts!

Cologne's Christmas Market 2015 Walkthrough

An unedited, unscripted look at my FIRST walk into a Christmas Market in Europe! We are here in Cologne, Germany at their famous Christmas Market just next to the Cologne Cathedral. This is my second stop on the Viking Kvasir, a Viking River Cruise. Step into this magical world with me!

Viking River Cruise: Kinderjik, The Netherlands

Kelley Cruises Europe: First stop on my Rhine Getaway itinerary with Viking River Cruise. Today our ship, the Viking Kvasir, made it's first stop at Kinderjik, a tiny town known for having some of the most well preserved windmills in the Netherlands.

Heidelberg Chistmas Market Walk Through

Heidelberg is a historic German city with charming city center and an even cuter Christmas Market!

Cologne's Brewery Fruh

Today we stopped at our first brewery! Cologne, or Koln, is known for its Kolsch--delicious light beer served in tiny glasses. We went to the home of Kolsh and ate (and drank) our way through it.

A Speedy tour Strasbourg

With only 2 hours to see this French city, I zipped through the beautiful streets, browsed 2 of their Christmas markets, and managed to squeeze in some bites and some shopping on the way!

Heidelberg: Castle, Christmas Market & Beer

My river cruise, the Viking Kvasir, stopped for the day in Heidelberg, so I got a quick look at this historic city. We checked out the famous Heidelberg Castle, ate our way through the Christmas market, shopped in Christmas stores and had a delicious pub lunch in a brauhaus.

Viking Kvasir: Main Deck & Atrium Walk-Through

Check out what my ship looked like on my Viking River Cruise on the Rhine River! We toured through The Netherlands, Germany, France & Switzerland--it was like a dream!

Viking Kvasir Ship: Stateroom Walkthrough

I'm cruising the Rhine River on the Viking Kvasir and I am really impressed by the rooms. Take a look at my home for the next 7 days.

Viking Kvasir: Restaurant Overview

This is the main restaurant for breakfast, lunch & dinner, and I had many a great meal in here! Breakfast was buffet style with an omelette station, cereals & fruits, pastries & breads, as well as smoked salmon and yogurt. Lunch changed daily with a salad bar, pasta station and selection of made to order items. Dinner was great--3 courses with 3 options each--I always had a hard time choosing from a lot of tasting options. Though on the main floor, the large windows always made this space feel light and airy. As you can see from the size, it still felt intimate as well.

Viking Kvasir: Outer Deck Walkthrough

It might a wet, windy day as we cruise through Holland but the outer decks still are impressive! It warmed up later on and I did get to enjoy these chairs & unending views with a glass of wine. Yay.

Viking Kvasir: Bar & Observation Lounge Tour

I would say that my favorite area was the Observation lounge. By day, the floor to ceiling windows gave you a full view of the beautiful landscape as we cruised down the Rhine. By night, the live piano, dim lights and excellent bar made this the go-to area of all the ship's passengers. This is where we had cooking demonstrations, nightly itinerary briefings and special events like choirs, local musicians and dancing!

Viking Kvasir: Upstairs Deck Walkthrough

An unedited, unscripted look at all the amenities, modern design and perks of the Viking Kvasir's upstairs deck.

Viking Kvasir: Outside on the deck

I was astounded by this beautiful stretch of the Rhine River. We got to see castle after castle from the lovely top deck of our ship.

MSC Preziosa: The Ship's 9 Kitchen Tour

Preziosa Moments with Kelley Ferro Ever wonder how a cruise ship can feed thousands of passengers unlimited food 3 times (and more!) a day? I was totally baffled so I was able to get a behind the scenes tour of one of the MSC Preziosa's 9 kitchens! The kitchens produce enough food for 5000 passengers every day, and the kicker is--the food is very high quality! They use the best Italian ingredients and even have holiday and special occasion treats to make that passenger experience that much more intimate. The operation "below the decks" is truly a feat and the chefs and managers that I met all loved their job...

MSC Preziosa MOMENT: Exploring the Medina in Tunis

MSC Preziosa: MSC Cruise Official Vlogger Campaign Pizza onboard! There are so many food options onboard, you'd be shocked. I have to say that one of my favorites was the Locanda Wine Bar where they not only had wine tastings and all sorts of different microbrews, but they served over 20 wood-fired pizzas. It took all of us a while to order and each person had a completely unique pizza. Mine was the last, topped with prociutto and arugala, it was heavenly. Bellissimo! This is my first cruise experience and I'm honored to be creating video snapshots of the 'Preziosa' moments along the way.
